UNS N04401 Heat Treatment Monel 401 Nickel Based Alloy Bar for Wire wound resistors
MONEL alloys are solid solution alloys that can be hardened by subjecting them to cold working. There are different types of MONEL alloys available commercially, namely, MONEL 400, 401, 404, R-405, 450 and K-500. The standard forms of MONEL alloy are hexagon, flats, forging stock, tube and pipe.
MONEL 401 is designed for use in special electric and electronic applications. The common forms of MONEL 401 alloy are strip and wire. This datasheet will look into the chemical composition, properties and applications of MONEL 401 alloy.

Some of the other designations that are used to denote MONEL 401 alloy are as below:-
Conventional machining techniques used on iron alloys may be used for this alloy.
Alloy 401 is readily autogenously welded into thin sections. Gas-tungsten-arc welding is the commonly used procedure. Resistance welding is a satisfactory method for this alloy.
May be hot worked if needed.
Cold working may be done using standard tooling and soft die materials for better finish.
MONEL 401 alloy should be annealed at 760°C (1400°F) for one hour for recovery from cold working.
The MONEL 401 alloy is used in the following applications:
