Standard Specification for Aluminum Bronze Rod, Bar, and Shapes
This specification establishes the requirements for rods, bars, and shapes of aluminum bronze with Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C61300, C61400, C61900, C62300, C62400, C63000, C63020, C63200, C64200, and C64210. Products shall be produced in tempers HR50, M10, M20, M30, O20, O25, O30, O32, TQ30, TQ50 and TQ55. Products shall be tested and shall conform to dimensional (mass, diameter, length, thickness, straightness, and edge contour), mechanical (tensile and yield strength, Rockwell hardness, and elongation), and chemical composition requirements. Products should also meet requirements under the mercurous nitrate test, ammonia test, and piston finish.


MATERIALS

C10100, commonly known as oxygen-free electronic copper (OFEC), has high conductivity and minimal impurities, making it ideal for electrical applications. With a minimum copper content of 99.99%, it offers excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and solderability. Used in power transmission, printed circuit boards, and telecommunications.
C10200, known as oxygen-free copper (OFC), possesses exceptional electrical conductivity due to its low oxygen content. It consists of a minimum of 99.95% copper and exhibits high ductility, corrosion resistance, and thermal conductivity. Ideal for electrical wires, bus bars, and architecture where electrical conductivity is vital.
C10300, or oxygen-free, extra-low phosphorus (OFXLP) copper, contains minimal impurities and low levels of phosphorus for enhanced electrical conductivity. It offers excellent formability and brazing capabilities, making it suitable for electrical and electronic components like connectors and switches.
C10400, also called oxygen-free, low phosphorus (OFXLP) copper, provides high electrical conductivity and improved forming characteristics. With a phosphorus content of less than 0.015%, it has great solderability and resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. Frequently used in electrical connectors, power transmission, and printed circuit boards.
C10500, known as phosphorus-deoxidized, high residual phosphorus (DHP) copper, has good electrical and thermal conductivity. It contains a small amount of phosphorus, enhancing its corrosion resistance and ease of fabrication. It is commonly used in plumbing fittings, heat exchangers, and tube systems.
C10700, commonly referred to as oxygen-free, high residual phosphorus (DHP) copper, exhibits excellent conductivity and durability. With a phosphorus content between 0.015% and 0.040%, it displays increased strength and resistance to softening at high temperatures. Suitable for thermoelectric applications, heat exchangers, and electrical conductors.
C10920, also known as leaded red brass, is a copper alloy with added lead for improved machinability. It features good corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and moderate strength. Common applications include plumbing fittings, valves, and electrical connectors that require excellent machinability.
C10930, also called leaded yellow brass, is a copper alloy containing lead to enhance its machinability. It exhibits good corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and excellent thermal conductivity. Ideal for applications such as plumbing fittings, connectors, and electrical components that require high machinability.
C10940, known as leaded naval brass, is a copper alloy with additional elements for increased strength and corrosion resistance. With the addition of lead, it offers superior machinability while maintaining good mechanical properties. Commonly used in marine applications, valve stems, and pump components.
C11300, or cadmium copper, contains a small amount of cadmium that enhances its electrical conductivity and strength. It offers excellent castability, solderability, and resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. Typically used in electrical connectors, plumbing fittings, and electronic components requiring high conductivity.
C11400, also called silver-bearing copper, contains a small percentage of silver, enhancing its electrical conductivity and mechanical strength. It offers excellent thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and solderability. Widely used in electrical connectors, conductive springs, and high-performance electronic components.
C11500, known as oxygen-free, highly conductive copper (OFHC), exhibits superior electrical conductivity and low content of impurities. With a minimum copper content of 99.99%, it provides excellent thermal conductivity, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Suitable for electrical and electronic applications demanding high conductivity.
C11600, also called electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper, contains a small amount of oxygen, which improves its mechanical properties without impacting electrical conductivity. With excellent corrosion resistance and moderate strength, it is commonly used in electrical wires, transformer windings, and bus bars.
C12000, known as phosphorus-deoxidized, low residual phosphorus (DLP) copper, contains minimal impurities and low levels of phosphorus for enhanced electrical conductivity. It offers good corrosion resistance, formability, and solderability. Primarily used in roofing, plumbing fittings, and electrical conductors.
C10800, also referred to as electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper, contains a small amount of oxygen, improving its mechanical properties while retaining high conductivity. With excellent corrosion resistance and moderate strength, it finds applications in electrical wires, bus bars, and transformer windings.
C12200, commonly known as copper tube or DHP copper, has high thermal and electrical conductivity. With excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability, it is widely used in plumbing fittings, heat exchangers, and refrigeration applications.
C38000, also called architectural bronze, is a high-strength copper alloy with zinc and tin as alloying elements. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, machinability, and low friction properties. Ideal for architectural applications, hardware, and marine components requiring durability and an attractive appearance.

 

Copper Profiles
Copper profiles are commonly used in distribution panels and switchboards delivering key electrical advantages. Profiles are more expensive and difficult to manufacture than flat bars due to the technical requirements such as they provide a more fragile production process, more complicated packaging, and a complex design. Although the profile offers a more detailed process, its unique design enables the manufacturer to meet the demands of individual projects.
Typically, Copper profiles are used in power and electrical engineering, onshore and offshore wind power, mechanical engineering, and supply equipment. Copper profiles are an effective way to reduce the weight of Copper conductors in an existing product. Profiles also allow for flexible designing and can meet the requirements for exact designs in individual jobs. Profiles can be designed to allow fast, hole-free assembly and jointing, which can significantly reduce the time required to assemble bars in a cabinet, improving consistency and quality.
