Standard Specification for Copper-Nickel-Zinc Alloy (Nickel Silver) and Copper-Nickel Rod and Bar
This specification establishes the requirements for copper-nickel-zinc and copper-nickel rod and bar for general application produced from Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C70600, C70620, C71500, C71520, C74500, C75200, C75700, C76400, C77000, and C79200. The chemical composition, temper, annealed temper grain size, and tensile strength requirements are detailed.
MATERIALS:
C70600, or Copper Nickel 90/10, possesses a chemical composition of approximately 88% copper and 10% nickel, along with small amounts of manganese and iron. This alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance in various environments, including seawater and brackish water applications. With good strength and ductility, C70600 is commonly used in marine engineering, heat exchangers, condensers, and desalination plants. Its remarkable resistance to biofouling and wear, coupled with its excellent thermal conductivity, make it a preferred choice in marine and offshore industries.
C70620, or Copper Nickel 90/10 with Chromium, is an alloy similar to C70600 but with added chromium content. It features a chemical composition of approximately 88% copper, 10% nickel, and 1% chromium. This material offers enhanced corrosion resistance compared to standard copper-nickel alloys, making it ideal for harsh marine environments, petrochemical plants, and power generation facilities. C70620 retains the excellent mechanical properties of C70600, with improved resistance to localized corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
C71500, also referred to as Copper Nickel 70/30, is composed of approximately 70% copper and 30% nickel. This alloy provides excellent corrosion resistance in various environments, including seawater. C71500 exhibits high strength, good formability, and weldability. It is commonly employed in marine hardware, heat exchangers, condensers, and various other maritime applications. Its superb resistance to erosion and biofouling, coupled with its reliable mechanical properties, make it suitable for both welded and seamless pipes and tubes in demanding marine environments.
C74500 (Copper-Nickel-Tin): This copper material is primarily composed of copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), and tin (Sn). It exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion in seawater and high-stress environments. C74500 offers good strength, conductivity, and thermal stability, making it suitable for marine applications, such as piping systems, heat exchangers, and condensers.
C75200 (Nickel-Silver): C75200 is a copper alloy with nickel (Ni) and small amounts of zinc (Zn). It possesses a high thermal and electrical conductivity, making it ideal for electrical connectors, switches, and terminals. This material also demonstrates good resistance to tarnishing, as well as high formability, making it suitable for decorative objects and musical instruments.
C75700 (Nickel-Silver): Similar to C75200, C75700 is a copper alloy containing nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn). It offers excellent electrical conductivity, moderate strength, and good corrosion resistance. C75700 is used in applications such as electrical connectors, components for electronic devices, and musical instrument parts.
C76400 (Nickel-Silver): C76400, like other nickel-silver alloys, is primarily composed of copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn). It exhibits high electrical conductivity, good corrosion resistance, and moderate strength. C76400 is commonly employed in the manufacture of connectors, switches, terminals, and various electrical components where excellent conductivity is required.
C77000 (Nickel-Silver): This copper alloy, containing nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn), provides excellent electrical conductivity, good formability, and resistance to tarnishing. C77000 is commonly used in applications demanding high electrical contact performance, such as switch gears, electrical connectors, terminals, and circuit breakers.
C79200 (Low-Fuming Bronze): C79200 is a copper-based alloy including phosphorus (P) and small amounts of silver (Ag). It exhibits good fluidity and reduced fuming during welding, making it suitable for brazing and soldering applications. C79200's low fuming characteristics make it a preferred choice for fabricated copper assemblies, joining copper to steel, and pipe connections in plumbing.
