Standard Specification for Copper-Zinc-Silicon Alloy Rod
This specification establishes the requirements for rods of copper-zinc-silicon alloy with Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C69300, C69400, C69430, C69700, and C69710. The materials for manufacture shall be cast billets, logs, or rods of such purity and soundness as to be suitable for processing by cold working, annealing, straightening, and cutting to length as may be necessary to produce finished products that meet the properties specified. Tempers available under this specification are H02 (half-hard) for UNS No. C69300, and H04 (hard) for all other UNS Nos. Products shall be tested (including by residual stress test and ammonia vapor test) and shall adhere to dimensional (diameter, length, straightness, and edge contour), mechanical (tensile and yield strength, and elongation), and chemical composition requirements.
MATERIALS:
C69300, also known as copper-nickel silicon, primarily consists of copper (85-89%), nickel (5-7%), and silicon (5-7%). It offers excellent resistance against corrosion and erosion, making it ideal for marine environments. With good electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, it is frequently used in electrical connectors, heat exchangers, and marine components. Its high strength and toughness add to its versatility, ensuring reliable performance even in demanding applications.
C69400, commonly referred to as copper-nickel beryllium, is primarily composed of copper (85-87%), nickel (1.8-2.2%), and beryllium (0.20-0.6%). It exhibits exceptional strength, hardness, and spring properties, making it suitable for electrical applications requiring high reliability, such as electrical connectors and switches. Its excellent resistance against wear, fatigue, and stress corrosion cracking further enhances its utility in demanding environments.
C69430, a copper alloy with additions of nickel and tin, offers enhanced mechanical properties compared to standard copper alloys. Its chemical composition typically includes copper (65-70%), nickel (5-7%), and tin (23-26%). This material exhibits good corrosion resistance and high tensile strength, making it suitable for applications requiring durability in marine environments, such as propellers, bushings, and pump components.
C69700, also known as copper-nickel tin, is composed of copper (62-66%), nickel (16-19%), and tin (13-16%). This alloy provides good strength, excellent resistance against erosion, and outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater. It is commonly used in marine engineering applications like condenser tubes, heat exchangers, and saltwater piping systems. Additionally, its combination of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties make it a favored choice in various industrial sectors.
C69710 is a copper alloy with additions of nickel and iron, typically composed of copper (54-58%), nickel (30-34%), and iron (6-8%). It exhibits excellent resistance against corrosion and biofouling, making it suitable for seawater applications. With its high strength, fatigue resistance, and good thermal conductivity, it finds utility in a wide range of marine applications, including heat exchangers, condenser tubes, and desalination units. Its biostatic properties make it particularly useful in cooling systems where fouling control is crucial.
C64700, also known as copper-nickel zinc, is primarily composed of copper (63-66%), nickel (22-25%), and zinc (4-6%). It provides excellent resistance to corrosion and biofouling, making it well-suited for seawater applications. This alloy exhibits good strength, and excellent thermal conductivity, and offers improved machinability compared to other copper alloys. It finds applications in marine equipment, heat exchangers, condensers, and other components where corrosion resistance and efficient heat transfer are essential.
